A mindfulness based approach in recovery addresses the most important aspects of what individuals are trying to accomplish, which is the "rewiring" of their mind/body systems, in order to learn more skillful ways to tolerate increasing amounts of emotional and psychological pain without becoming reactive, shutting down or turning towards substances and behaviours to self-medicate.
