This is a one day workshop aimed at all medical professionals, students or educators to introduce the value of observation, using a novel method which includes touch (haptics) and drawing (the making of marks on paper). This is known as Haptico-Visual Observation and Drawing (HVO&D)

Participants will be guided through a series of exercises that will enable them to understand and practise this observation method. The result is that each participant will be able to observe and draw capably using this approach.

The application of the HVO&D method results in a greatly increased level of observation of the form of a 3-dimensional object (including an anatomical part), as well as the cognitive memorisation of it. The course is presented by Leonard Shapiro, an experienced drawing teacher and workshop facilitator.

NOTE: You need absolutely NO drawing experience to participate in this workshop. All materials will be provided.

The course will be held at the University of Cape Town's Faculty of Health Sciences in Anzio Road, Observatory.

A certificate of attendance will be given to participants of the course.

The course is limited to 12 participants.

Inviting Specialists to The Fountain Private Hospital

INSTITUTION: The Fountain Private Hospital

The Fountain Private Hospital (formerly known as Leslie Williams Private Hospital) is a registered 163 bed facility (servicing mainly medical and surgical patients) with a 6 bed ICU and 3 theatres. The Fountain is situated in Carletonville on the R500 between Fochville and Carletonville. The referral area extends through Carletonville, Fochville, Khutsong, Oberholzer and Westonaria with the closest other private hospitals being located in Krugersdorp and Potchefstroom. It is therefore, the biggest private hospital servicing these communities. The GP referral base is approximately 50 doctors.

The hospital is an Africa Healthcare managed facility.

We are a member of NHN (National Hospital Network - a network of most of the independent private hospitals) and accept all medical aids.

In addition to this we are a service provider to mining corporate clients in the area, and this would require that you as a service provider at the hospital register with them.

This is an ideal opportunity for specialists that are looking to develop and expand their practice, as there is constant volume and in-flow in terms of referrals from the local doctors.

Invitation to Lunges For Lunch - 8 September 2015 Gillits Medical Centre, Gillette

'Lunges for Lunch'

In celebration of World Physiotherapy Day on the 8th of September, PhysioFocus (the Private Sector) of the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) has decided to run a global event.

This date is part of the SASP's Physiotherapy Backweek which runs from the 7th to the 11th of September 2015.

PhysioFocus has decided to do 'Lunges for Lunch' on the 8th of September at 13h00. The idea is for the SASP members to bring as many people (old or young) together at a designated spot in their community and everybody will do 10 lunges at 13h00.
PhysioFocus also wants as many people as possible to participate, because we want to see this as a preliminary event for next year planned Guinness World Record where we want to BREAK the world record, of as many people as possible doing 10 lunges together at one time.
This ties in with the SASP's current theme "Movement for Good Health - Exercise". Physiotherapists are exercise experts and therefore play an important role in the health care of people of all ages and in any condition. Physiotherapy is aimed at prevention of injuries or illnesses, promotion of better health, diagnosis and treatment in order to live as independently as possible.
A qualified physiotherapist is a first line practitioner medical practitioner and you do not need to be referred by a doctor to see a physiotherapist.

We invite you to join PhysioFocus on the 8th of September 2015 for this huge event.
